labia correction
Indications
A correction of the shape or size of the labia is done for aesthetic or functional reasons (pain or discomfort in daily activities such as cycling, sex,…).
A commonly requested procedure is labia reduction, which reduces the size of the labia minora (inner lips). Other treatment options can be discussed with the plastic surgeon.
Treatment
Preferably a so-called zigzag scar or W-plastic is used (less pull on the final scar). This is in contrast to a linear scar that contracts during healing and may cause discomfort.
After surgery there can be swelling of the labia and some blood loss. The labia are full of blood vessels, which also quickly results in bruising. The wound is closed with resorbable sutures. The first days can be sensitive and painful.
Anaesthesia:
A labia reduction is mostly done in day surgery under sedation with local anaesthesia. However, general anaesthesia is also possible.
