Laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is a scientifically proven technique to remove unwanted hair efficiently and in a reliable manner. In addition, the skin texture and quality are enhanced by the laser treatment.
Comparison with other methods of hair removal
- Hair removal in the traditional manner, such as hair removal with wax is often very painful and not permanent. Also problems with ingrown hairs often occur.
- Hair removal with flashlights (IPL-systems): IPL is often used in beauty salons. IPL is not a laser (although it is sometimes referred to as a laser) but is only intensive flash light. The disadvantages are explained below.
Advantages of Diode laser
- As a result of the pure wavelength, no light is lost with the diode laser, increasing its effectiveness. Less treatments will be necessary, more cost efficiently. After 6 to 8 treatments 80% to 90% of the unwanted hair will permanently disappear. Compared to IPL-flash light which is less effective because it uses light with different wavelengths. Only certain wavelengths are suitable for hair removal. The other wavelengths should be filtered out. As a result, IPL-lights penetrate less deep in the skin. Deeper roots will react insufficiently. Therefor more treatments will be necessary.
- The diode laser is equipped with a cooled tip. This and the use of cool gel, makes the treatment with the diode laser very tolerable. Compared to IPL, a treatment with diode laser will be less painful when using a cooled tip.
- The effectiveness of the diode laser has been scientifically proven. This device was elected by various medical and aesthetic professional journals as absolute standard for permanent hair removal.
- It is the only laser method approved by the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) as method for permanent hair reduction for all skin types. Also suitable for tinted and black skin types.
- The long term effect of diode lasers has been known for more than 30 years, IPL-systems only exist on the market since the 1990s.
- The quality of the diode laser is constant. The quality of IPL can vary depending on the fact if the lamps are new or have already been used several times.
Why have this treatment done in the Global Care Clinic?
-
The Global Care Clinic has a diode laser in own management. This removes all commercial intermediaries and commissions, resulting in a fair price.
- In addition, this makes it possible to have the treatment done anytime (flexibility). This is in contrast to some beauty salons where the laser is placed every now and then on lease.
- Last but not least: A very important advantage is the medical supervision.
PROCEDURE
The diode laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light with a certain wavelength. This light beam is put on the skin with a fraction of a second. The energy of the laser light is absorbed mainly by the pigment around the hair root. This causes the hair root cells to warm up and selectively be destroyed.
In order not to damage the epidermis, the laser is equipped with a cooled tip. This makes it possible to deliver more energy and thus work more effectively without damaging the surrounding skin and the underlying blood vessels. The result is a painless and efficient hair removal!
Number of treatments
Each hair goes through three stages of development (see picture):

- Active growth or anagen phase.
- Regressive phase or catagen phase. Period of 2 weeks, where an active hair turns into the resting phase.
- Resting phase or telogen phase. Period of about 6 weeks after which the hair will fall out spontaneously and a new growth cycle or active phase starts.
The laser beam is the most active in the anagen phase (active growth). Because not all hairs are in the anagen phase at the same time, multiple treatments are necessary.
The ideal treatment regimen consists of 6 to 8 sessions: 5 sessions with 1 month interval, a sixth session 5 to 6 months after the first and finally 2 sessions between 8 and 12 months after the first. An optimal result is usually obtained after 1 year. Results vary from person to person.
6 to 8 treatments will give 80% to 90% hair loss for most patients. Some patients may need more treatments and one extra free treatment is possible after one year if necessary.
We always start with a soft laser setting to reduce the chance of complications or skin burns. If necessary, the settings can be adjusted after 2 or 3 treatments to optimise the result.

Preparation
6 to 8 weeks prior to the first laser, hairs may only be removed with shaving.
Any kind of epilation/wax is best avoided during the entire treatment.
