Mia Femtech™, together with Preservé™ breast augmentation, is considered one of the most revolutionary innovations in breast augmentations of the past 25 years.
It is already being compared to the introduction of laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which has largely replaced traditional open surgery in many medical specialties.
Discover the most frequently asked questions about Mia Femtech™ below. Because every woman, every body, and every breast is unique, we take the time during a comprehensive consultation to answer all your personal questions about breast augmentation and to determine together which technique is best suited to your needs.
What does the acronym Mia® stand for?
Mia® stands for “Minimally Invasive Augmentation”, an innovative and minimally invasive technique for natural breast augmentation. With this modern method, a specially designed soft breast implant (Ergonomix2 Diamond®) is inserted through a small incision in the armpit, leaving no visible scars on the breast.
Thanks to the advanced Mia Femtech™ instruments, the breast tissue is preserved as much as possible, making the procedure significantly more tissue-friendly than traditional breast augmentation. As a result, many women experience less pain, a faster recovery, and a more natural and stable outcome.
How many cup sizes can I gain with Mia®?
The Mia® technique was developed for women seeking a subtle and natural breast enhancement. Depending on your body shape and starting situation, you can typically gain 1 to 2 cup sizes, for example from an A cup to a B or C cup. The result remains elegant, proportionate, and harmonious with the natural contours of your body.
Does Mia Femtech™ offer a natural lifting effect?
Mia Femtech™ can provide a subtle lifting effect thanks to the specific profile of the Diamond® implant and the additional support from the preserved breast tissues. These tissues act as a natural “nest” or internal bra around the implant, helping it remain better supported than with traditional breast augmentation.
However, Mia Femtech™ is not intended to correct significantly sagging breasts. In cases of pronounced breast sagging, a breast lift is usually the most appropriate treatment. During a personal consultation, Dr. Nelissen, who specializes in both breast augmentation and breast lift procedures, will assess which technique best matches your anatomy and expectations.
When is Mia® breast harmonization not the right option?
Mia Femtech™ is not the most suitable treatment for everyone. In the following situations, another technique may be more appropriate:
- You have previously undergone breast augmentation with implants.
- You would like a bigger increase in volume than 1 to 2 cup sizes.
- You have significantly sagging breasts.
In these cases, we will discuss alternative options during your consultation, such as implant replacement, Preservé™ breast augmentation or a breast lift.
How long does a Mia Femtech™ procedure take?
The Mia Femtech™ procedure is remarkably fast compared to traditional breast augmentation. A shorter procedure time offers several advantages in terms of safety, recovery, and reducing the risk of complications.
The actual placement of the implants can be completed in approximately 15 minutes. Including preparation, treatment, and post-procedure care, the total time spent in the operating suite is about 90 minutes. The exact duration may vary slightly depending on your anatomy and the desired result. Most importantly, we always take the time to guide and care for you in a calm and personal manner, without any sense of rush. After the procedure, you can return home the very same day.
Will there be visible scars after the procedure?
Nee, bij de Mia® techniek ontstaat er geen zichtbaar litteken op de borst. Het litteken bevindt zich discreet in de oksel en is doorgaans slechts ongeveer 2cm groot.
No. With the Mia® technique, there is no visible scar on the breast itself. The scar is discreetly hidden in the armpit and is typically only about 2 cm long.
Will I still be able to breastfeed after the procedure?
Yes. Mia® is not considered a factor that would prevent breastfeeding. The implant is placed without damaging the milk glands, helping to preserve the natural function of the breast.
How will my breasts feel after a Mia® procedure?
After the procedure, your breasts may feel somewhat tight or sensitive for a few days. This usually improves quickly during the recovery process.
Thanks to the soft, breast tissue-mimicking Diamond® implants and the tissue-preserving (breast tissue preservation) technique, many women describe their breasts afterwards as feeling natural, supple, and soft – just like natural breasts.
Who is Mia® a good choice for?
The Mia® technique is ideal for women who are looking for a natural and subtle breast enhancement using a minimally invasive approach.
This procedure is particularly suitable if you would like a modest increase in breast volume or a more harmonious breast shape, without major surgery, general anesthesia, or a lengthy recovery period. Mia® is also an excellent option for women who do not want visible scars on their breasts.
How does Mia Femtech™ differ from traditional breast augmentation through the armpit?
Breast augmentation through the armpit has been performed for many years.
However, Mia Femtech™ is not simply a new marketing name for the same procedure. It represents an entirely new generation of breast augmentation that differs fundamentally from traditional transaxillary (armpit) breast augmentation.
Classic breast augmentation through the armpit
- General anesthesia
- Larger incision
- More damage to breast tissue, muscles, and ligaments, as the access path to the implant pocket is created using invasive instruments
- Higher risk of complications and less precision, as implant placement is often performed largely by feel
- Typically more swelling, pain, and a longer recovery period
- Not reversible through the armpit; if the implants need to be removed, an additional incision in the breast crease is usually required
Mia Femtech™ breast harmonisation
- Local anesthesia with comfort sedation
- Small incision of approximately 2–3 cm in the armpit
- Specially developed Mia Femtech™ instruments that gently create access to the implant pocket
- Innovative no-touch technique allowing for more controlled and precise implant placement
- Soft, injectable Diamond® implants
- Less pain, faster recovery, and a natural, lightweight result
- Reversible through the same access route (the armpit)
- Performed exclusively by specially trained and certified plastic surgeons as an additional quality label
Is the breast implant placed behind the muscle, in front of the muscle, or in a dual-plane position during a Mia Femtech™ breast harmonization procedure?
With the Mia Femtech™ technique, the breast implant is always placed in front of (above) the chest muscle, and therefore not behind the muscle or in a dual-plane position. This is one of the key differences compared to traditional breast augmentation procedures.
This is possible thanks to the unique way the implant pocket is created. Instead of cutting through the breast tissue and muscle, the tissues are gently stretched using a special Motiva® balloon. As a result, the breast muscle and supporting ligaments remain intact. Because the muscle is preserved, patients generally experience significantly less – or even no – postoperative pain, and recovery is considerably faster. In addition, the stretching of the tissues tensions the supporting ligaments, creating a stable “nest” or internal bra around the implant. This provides long-term support and helps prevent the implant from descending over time.

What is the difference between Mia Femtech™ and Preservé™?
Mia Femtech™ or Preservé™?
Mia Femtech™ and Preservé™ are both innovative, minimally invasive breast augmentation techniques with fast recovery and natural-looking results.
While both procedures offer similar benefits, they differ in technique, scar location, and possible volume (cc).
What do Mia Femtech™ and Preservé™ have in common?
Both breast augmentations:
- Are minimally invasive
- Are performed under local anesthesia with comfort sedation
- Have a shorter procedure time (compared to traditional breast augmentation)
- Allow for faster recovery (compared to classic breast augmentation)
- Respect the natural breast tissue, muscles, and supporting ligaments (these are not cut, as in traditional breast augmentation)
Key differences between Mia Femtech™ and Preservé™
1. Scar location
Mia Femtech™: small incision in the armpit → no visible scar under the breast.
Preservé™: subtle incision (± 2.5–3 cm) in the inframammary fold (under the breast) → no visible scar (a very small scar hidden under the breast).
2. Volume & result
Mia Femtech™: ideal for subtle breast enhancement or harmonization (up to approx. 220cc), limited to 1–2 cup sizes.
Preservé™: offers greater precision in implant placement and a wider range of volume options, while still focusing on natural results (up to approx. 340cc).
3. Technique & implants
Both techniques use advanced, minimally invasive insertion tools and methods.
Mia Femtech™ also uses a specific implant shape: the Diamond breast implant.
4. Applications
Mia Femtech™: purely focused on breast harmonization (subtle enhancement) and cannot be combined with a breast lift.
Preservé™: also very natural results and can be combined with a breast lift (augmentation + lift).
Which breast augmentation is right for me?
Choose Mia Femtech™ if you want a very natural, subtle enhancement without a scar under the breast and do not need a lift.
Choose Preservé™ if you want more volume, don’t mind a small, discreet scar in the breast fold, and/or need a breast lift.
