Many women dream of having a breast augmentation but postpone the procedure because summer is just around the corner.
The idea that heat, sun exposure, or holidays could make recovery more difficult is still widespread. But with the latest techniques, is that concern still justified?
The short answer is: a breast augmentation can absolutely be performed during the summer.
In fact, for many women, the holiday period is the ideal time to schedule a breast augmentation.
Thanks to innovative, minimally invasive techniques such as MIA® or Preservé®, recovery is generally much faster and more comfortable than with traditional breast augmentation procedures.

1. Why women hesitate to have breast augmentation in summer
We often hear questions such as:
- Can I go in the sun after a breast augmentation?
- Is warm weather bad for healing?
- Can I still go on holiday?
- Will I have to take it easy for weeks?
- Can I still lift my children now that they are home more often during holidays?
These concerns are understandable, but they are often based on older surgical techniques, when larger incisions and longer recovery periods were common.
2. MIA® and Preservé®: designed for faster recovery
Modern breast augmentation techniques such as MIA® and Preservé® are specifically designed to preserve the breast’s tissues as much as possible.
These procedures are performed through a very small incision while respecting the natural anatomy of the breast. As a result, there is less trauma to the surrounding tissues, allowing for a smoother and faster recovery.
One of the key advantages is that there is minimal tension or pulling on the scar. This contributes to a more comfortable healing process, promotes faster recovery, and makes it easier to return to everyday activities.
3. Returning to daily activities more quickly
One of the biggest misconceptions about breast augmentation is that patients are unable to do anything for weeks after surgery. This may still be true for breast augmentations performed using older, traditional surgical techniques.
With MIA® and Preservé®, however, most patients can resume their normal daily activities almost immediately. Walking, light movements, and normal arm movements are generally possible again within a short period of time.
This does not mean that intensive sports activities are recommended right away, but the traditional image of weeks of inactivity is largely a thing of the past thanks to these modern surgical techniques.
4. Can I go swimming after my breast augmentation? Just one week of patience
Women who plan a breast augmentation during the summer often wonder whether they will still be able to swim afterwards.
Our advice is simple: avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, the sea, and lakes for approximately one week to allow the small incision to close and heal optimally.
After that, you can fully enjoy your favourite summer activities again.
5. Breast augmentations are performed year-round in warm climates
Some patients believe that breast augmentation is best performed during the winter because warm weather could interfere with recovery.
In reality, breast augmentations are performed all over the world, including in countries where temperatures remain warm throughout the year, such as Brazil. From Southern Europe to the Middle East, Asia, and South America, women undergo aesthetic procedures every day regardless of the season.
Warm weather itself does not interfere with normal wound healing, provided that the postoperative instructions are followed correctly.
6. Could summer actually be the ideal time for a breast augmentation?
For many patients, summer may actually be the perfect time to undergo a breast augmentation.
Holiday periods often provide more relaxation, fewer work commitments, and greater flexibility to dedicate a few days to recovery.
Although recovery after a MIA® or Preservé® breast augmentation is typically quick, many patients appreciate having a little extra time at home during the first few days after the procedure. The summer holiday period can offer the ideal opportunity for this.
In addition, many women look forward to enjoying the rest of the summer -or their upcoming holiday- with the confidence of their new breasts.
7. The right technique makes all the difference
Not every breast augmentation is the same. Recovery time, scarring, and the speed at which daily activities can be resumed depend greatly on the surgical technique used.
That is why an increasing number of women are choosing minimally invasive approaches such as MIA® and Preservé®, where patient comfort, rapid recovery, and respect for the body’s natural anatomy are key priorities.
