NOSE CORRECTION

What is a nose correction?

A nose correction, also known as a “nose job” is a surgical procedure that improves the proportions and harmony of the nose in the face.

The goal of a nose correction is to bring the nose into better balance with the rest of your face, resulting in a more natural and harmonious appearance.

Facts about nose correction

What you definitely want to know about nose correction:

Why or when should you consider a nose correction?

A nose correction can address various aesthetic and functional issues of the nose, including:

What is an ultrasound (Piezo) nose correction?

This is an advanced, improved method for correcting the nose, utilizing ultrasonic technology to enhance precision and accuracy. This approach, also known as “Piezo surgery” offers several advantages over traditional surgical instruments such as rasps and hammers.

The Piezo surgery technique has been known for over 40 years in other medical fields, such as maxillofacial surgery. It was further developed for rhinoplasty by the Parisian plastic surgeon Dr. Gerbault.

What does ultrasonic rhinoplasty involve?

Ultrasonic vibrations

The ultrasonic nose correction uses the Piezo device, an advanced instrument that works with ultrasonic vibrations to gently manipulate bone structures.

This device can be compared to an electric toothbrush in terms of operation, but it is specifically designed for surgical applications.

Precision

The Piezo technique offers exceptional precision in sculpting the nasal bone structure.
This allows the bone to be shaped and sculpted without excessive damage to the surrounding tissue.

Tissue protection

Because the ultrasound technology is focused on bone structures and less on soft tissue, there is less risk of damage to the surrounding skin and cartilage.

This leads to faster healing and less postoperative discomfort.

What are the benefits of ultrasound nose correction?

  1. Better visual control: The entire nasal area is more visible during the surgery, allowing the surgeon to work more precisely and avoid unnecessary fractures.
  2. Less bruising and swelling: The ultrasound technique reduces the chance of excessive bruising and swelling after the surgery, so patients are less marked, which contributes to a faster recovery and resumption of social activities.
  3. Suitable for brittle bone structures: This technique is particularly useful for patients with thin or brittle bone structures, such as some women or patients aged 40-45 and older.
  4. Improved symmetry: The precision of the Piezo technique makes it easier to correct asymmetry in the nose, resulting in a more balanced outcome.

What is the difference between an open and a closed nose correction?

A nose correction can be performed through an open or closed procedure:

  • An ‘open nose correction‘ in which the skin of the nose is separated from the cartilage. Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nelissen prefers this method because it provides better visibility of the internal structures of the nose, allowing for more precise work. Combined with ‘gentle tissue handling’ (operating as carefully as possible with minimal damage to the surrounding tissues), the swelling time can be well-controlled. The scar is often no longer visible after a few weeks.
  • A ‘closed nose correction‘ is performed through an internal incision, which offers less visibility of the internal nasal structures, making it less precise.

FAQ - frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty

Am I a good candidate for a nose correction?

Suitable candidates for a nose correction are:

For a nose correction, we usually recommend a second, free preoperative consultation, preferably together with a partner or trusted person.

Some tips:

  • Bring old childhood photos of your face, both front and side views.
  • Think in advance about the three most important aspects of your nose that you would like to change.
  • Don’t forget to mention if your nose has been operated on before, treated with fillers, or ever broken.

What are the possible risks or complications of a nose correction?

Just like any surgery, a nose correction carries potential risks. Read more here about the general complications that can occur with any surgical procedure. The specific risks and complications will be discussed during the consultation and are listed in the pre-op documents.
