Minimal scar breast augmentation

A frequently asked question about breast augmentation is: “What does the scar from a breast augmentation look like?

In most cases, the scar will have faded after one year into an almost invisible, skin-colored line — as shown in this photo of a scar approximately one year after breast augmentation.

To achieve the most discreet and minimal scar possible, several factors play a key role:

1. Small incision for a smaller scar:

A smaller incision (“minimal scar”) naturally results in a smaller scar. Thanks to the latest generation of breast implants, which are flexible and highly compressible, it’s now possible to place the implant through an incision as small as 2.5 cm in the breast fold. This is nearly half the size of a traditional incision, leading to a much subtler scar.

2. Strategic incision placement:

The incision is usually placed in the natural fold underneath the breast. This location makes the scar less visible compared to incisions in the armpit or around the nipple.

3. Modern surgical techniques:

By using the most advanced surgical techniques — such as “Preservation Breast Augmentation” and “Minimal Invasive Augmentation” (MIA)internal trauma and bleeding are minimized. This not only reduces the risk of excessive scarring but also helps prevent complications like capsular contracture. In addition, these modern techniques allow for faster recovery and less postoperative pain.

4. Careful aftercare for optimal scar healing:

Proper aftercare is essential for optimal scar healing. This includes proper wound cleaning, wearing a supportive sports bra, and following our guidelines to prevent complications. After surgery, we offer several (free) follow-up appointments that are crucial for early detection and treatment of abnormal scar formation.
