Facts about liposuction
What you definitely want to know about liposuction:
- From €1000 (small zone)
- 2 hours surgery
- Local anesthesia and sedation
- Home the same day (day procedure)
- A few days of recovery
- Small (4 to 5 mm) incisions (almost invisible after healing)
When or why consider liposuction?
Liposuction is suitable for removing smaller, localized fat deposits that cannot be reduced through dieting and exercise.
When is liposuction not the best treatment?
- BMI (Body Mass Index) of over 25: in this case, we recommend a prior diet and exercise to first lower your BMI to a level between 20 and 25.
- Excess skin or stretched abdominal muscles: in this case, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a better treatment.
Which areas can be treated with liposuction?
The most commonly treated areas in women are:
- the outer thighs and
- the abdomen
The most commonly treated areas in men are:
- the abdomen and the flanks, or “love handles”
- the breasts (gynaecomastia)
How does liposuction work?
- Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home the same day. The procedure is done under sedation (relaxation sleep) with local anesthesia, or under general anesthesia (for an additional fee).
- First, a special fluid containing anesthetic and hemostatic medication is injected into the area to be treated. This is done using thin tubes, called microcannulas.
- This fluid loosens the excess fat, which is then suctioned out with the microcannulas. In the past, larger cannulas were used to remove larger amounts of fat, but this often caused more bruising and bleeding. The use of microcannulas requires more time and precision but has the important advantage of causing less blood loss and fewer bruises.
- After the surgery, the treated area may feel sore, similar to a bruise. Swelling and numbness may also occur in the first few days.
- For about 3 weeks, you must wear a custom compression garment or abdominal band day and night. This helps prevent fluid accumulation and compresses the emptied area to promote skin contraction.
- The first follow-up appointment takes place in the week after the procedure, during which the wound is checked, and any stitches are removed. A second follow-up occurs after 3 to 6 months. Postoperative check-ups are essential for early detection of potential complications and are included in the treatment cost.

LIPOLYSIS
Lipolysis is a non-surgical treatment where localized, small fat deposits are treated with injections.
These injections are made with phosphatidylcholine (PPT), a natural substance derived from the soybean plant, which is also produced by the human body (e.g., as part of fat metabolism). The injections activate and accelerate the body’s natural metabolic process, causing fat to be naturally eliminated from the body.
For which body areas is a Lipolysis treatment possible?
Liposuction is only intended for smaller areas.
For example, after one lipolysis treatment, only 100 to 200cc of fat will be removed, while with one liposuction procedure, up to one liter of fat can easily be removed.
The most commonly treated areas for lipolysis are: fat under the bra strap (front and back), fat around the belly button, knees, double chin, jawline,…
How many Lipolysis treatments are needed?
The number of treatments varies from person to person, depending on the body area and surface to be treated.
As an indication, 1 to 3 treatments can be expected, with intervals of 6 to 8 weeks. For a double chin, typically 1 session is sufficient
Is a Lipolysis treatment safe?
The injected medication is a natural substance that our body also produces to protect the liver and has been used for many years in the medical world to prevent fat embolisms (fat clots) in the blood.
How long will it take before I can resume my normal activities?
Apart from the redness and swelling of the skin and possible bruising in the treated area, there are no major side effects, so one can immediately resume normal activities.
How much does Lipolysis cost?
- €250: Small area face (e.g., double chin)
- €500: Large treatment first session. Follow-up session €40/injection, max. €300.
- Treatment without sedation or general anesthesia.
