Breast augmentation with own fat tissue (BRAVA)
Breast augmentation with own fat tissue is a “natural” form of breast augmentation. We call it “natural” because the breasts are enlarged without implants, ointments or medications.
The inventor of BRAVA, Dr. Roger Khouri of the Miami Breast Center (where Dr. Nelissen followed courses on several occasions), has a lot of experience with BRAVA in combination with fat-grafting.
“Fat grafting” means transferring body tissue (in this case: fat) from abdomen, buttocks or legs to the breasts. This is a breast augmentation with own (autologous) fat, that is preliminary obtained elsewhere in the body through liposuction.
So you get “2 for 1” treatments: liposuction and breast augmentation.
A good preparation is of great importance: the breast volume is firstly increased and the breast tissue prepared. This results in a better blood circulation resulting in a better survival of the injected fat. This is done by “disciplinary” wearing the BRAVA cups (external device which exerts a gentle suction) for some weeks.
Requirements for this procedure are a great discipline (wearing the BRAVA cups during a number of hours per day/night) and presence of sufficient excess fat.
Also important to know is that one BRAVA treatment will rarely create as much volume as an implant.
