A breast lift is not just a popular aesthetic procedure – it’s a thoughtful personal choice, based on how you feel in your own body.
Yet, there are many doubts and fears surrounding this treatment:
- Am I not too young for a breast lift?
- Will there be visible scars?
- Can I breastfeed after the breast lift surgery?
Many of these concerns and doubts arise from misunderstandings.
In this blog, we take a closer look at the most common misconceptions about breast lift surgeries and provide you with clear facts to dispel these uncertainties.
Facts about breast lift:
- A breast lift does not change the breast cup size but can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction.
- Filling with large breast implants cannot lift sagging breasts.
- A breast lift is suitable for women of all ages, for example, after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.
- Scars from a breast lift are less visible with new surgical techniques and gradually fade.
- Breastfeeding remains possible after a breast lift, depending on the technique used.
- The pain after a breast lift is quite manageable (according to our patients).
Fact 1: A breast lift does not automatically change your cup size
A breast lift tightens and lifts the breasts but does not necessarily change the breast size or cup size.
If you want a larger cup size or a more beautiful fullness (cleavage), the breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction to achieve the desired result. Both procedures can be performed simultaneously in one surgery.
Fact 2: Filling with large breast implants cannot lift sagging breasts
This is a persistent myth that we often hear. The answer, however, is no: the breasts will sag even more due to the added weight of the large breast implants.
Do you want a more beautiful filling at the top (décolletage)? This can be achieved with the right size of breast implants or, in some cases, through autofilling (Dr. Nelissen’s own technique).
Fact 3: Breast lift is not just for older women
Breast sagging occurs as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging. A breast lift is for each woman who wants to feel better about her body, regardless of age. Whether you’re looking to restore youthful firmness or improve your overall breast shape, a breast lift can help you achieve a more confident, rejuvenated appearance.
Fact 4: Scars from a breast lift are less visible with new surgical techniques and fade gradually
Thanks to innovative surgical techniques, such as the Preservé™ breast lift technique introduced by Dr. Nelissen in Belgium, scarring is minimized even further.
With proper aftercare, the scar gradually fades over the first year. During this time, it can easily be concealed by a bra.
The size of the scar depends on the extent of the breast correction and individual predisposition.
Fact 5: Breastfeeding remains possible after a breast lift
Whether you can breastfeed after a breast lift depends on the surgical technique used. With the techniques employed by Dr. Nelissen, including the Preservé™ breast lift technique, breast tissue and milk glands are preserved as much as possible, allowing for future breastfeeding.
Fact 6: Pain after a breast lift is manageable
Thanks to Dr. Nelissen’s advanced techniques, most patients experience the breast lift as virtually painless. Often, no pain medication is needed after just a few days, and during follow-up appointments, patients are usually surprised that the intense pain did not occur.
