Cellulite treatment
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is a common concern, giving a lot of women complexes. It mainly affects women, because their elastic subcutaneous connective tissue is naturally softer and looser (compared to men). If the tension of the elastic fibres decreases under the influence of hormonal fluctuations, unilateral (carbohydrate and high fat) diet and too little exercise, more fat cells are deposited in the subcutaneous skin. These can increase tenfold in volume and push the weak connective tissue to the skin’s surface. This causes disfiguring lumps and dimples in the skin surface, the so-called "orange peel skin".
What is SPM?
SPM (“Suction Pressure Massage“, also called “Vacussage“, “Cupping” or “Suction pump massage“), sucks in the skin and underlying fat and muscle layer into a glass cup and massages it. This loosens up indurated subcutaneous structures. The blood circulation is stimulated with an increased supply of nutrients. The draining of waste substances is encouraged by the stimulation of the lymphatic system.
A SPM-treatment feels like a firm massage, in some places lightly painful and there may occur some bruising. We recommend keeping the bruises out of the sun to avoid permanent discoloration. After the treatment, the skin feels hot for some time and can also show redness as a result of the increased blood circulation.
For who is SPM suitable?
This treatment is suitable for almost anyone withlocal fat deposits on the hips, buttocks and abdominal regions. Vacussage is not recommended during pregnancy, on damaged skin, abnormal moles or skin conditions, superficial varicose veins, chronic oedema and extended use of blood thinners.
What results can you expect?
The surrounding tissues become more elastic, resulting in improved skin quality with a tighter and smoother view. It is the ideal treatment for a skin firming and lifting effect resulting in better body contouring. As a result of the increased blood circulation and stimulation of lymph circulation, your skin is going to look more radiant and healthier. Results vary from person to person and also depend on the general lifestyle and eating habits.
Combination with Liposuction
In certain cases, where more extensive zones must be treated, it may be desirable to combine a SPM treatment with a Liposuction or Lipolysis. This in order to achieve a faster and better result. Also after a Liposuction, SPM may be a good treatment to reduce stubborn fluid deposits or irregularities. For this combination therapy please do not hesitate to ask further information.
How many treatments are needed?
On average 12 treatments will be necessary to obtain a nice result. The treatment takes about 30 minutes in which the skin is cleaned, peeled and then massaged with the vacuum cups, ending with a manual lymph drainage. For best results, it’s advisable to schedule 2 treatments per week. Afterwards we recommend a monthly maintenance treatment in order to maintain the end result. This is because cellulite is subject to monthly hormonal fluctuations. We also recommend an active lotion (Body Special Strong) by Dr. Baumann for home use which stimulates the metabolism and blood circulation.
