PEELING

SKIN IMPROVEMENT

What is a skin-improving peeling?

A peeling, just like medical needling, is a treatment aimed at intensively improving the quality of the skin.

Peelings contain acids (such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, and TCA (trichloroacetic acid)) that have a mild to strong exfoliating effect on the skin. The peeling removes the top layer of dead skin cells, making way for fresh new skin.

We offer a complete range of peelings, categorized according to their depth effect. The medical peelings are performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Nelissen.

Why or when should you get a skin-improving peeling?

A peeling is done for the following reasons:

Types of peelings

We distinguish three types of peelings, each with a specific effect and result:

Superficial peeling

These peelings, which are  available at beauty salons, use alpha hydroxy acids (fruit acids). They cleanse the skin, stimulate blood circulation, and provide a fresh appearance. Additionally, they are effective against acne and blackheads. Due to the low concentration of acids, they primarily have a cleansing effect, making the skin look more radiant.

Medium (TCA) peeling

For skin rejuvenation, improvement, or addressing specific concerns such as pigmentation spots, dull skin, enlarged pores, or acne scars, medium peelings are more suitable. These peelings contain trichloroacetic acid (TCA), which penetrates deeper into the skin and has a stronger exfoliating effect than fruit acids. After a medium peeling, peeling of the skin occurs, which helps to reduce irregularities such as spots or wrinkles. The peeling is usually most visible between days 3 and 5.

Deep (Phenol) Peeling

For deep wrinkles or severe skin damage caused by factors such as sun exposure or smoking, a deep peeling can rejuvenate the skin. These peelings vary in intensity (deep, deeper, deepest) and are often used to achieve significant rejuvenation in a single treatment. They contain phenol, often combined with TCA.

Since deep wrinkles usually appear in localized areas, such as around the mouth or eyes, the treatment can be applied to specific areas. The rest of the face can then be treated with a medium peeling to reduce the intensity of the procedure. Deep peelings may only be performed by a physician.

verschillende soorten peeling op basis van de dieptewerking

1. EASY TCA = medium peeling

“Makes you look younger again.”

This is a medium peeling that provides visible skin improvement. It is particularly suitable for all skin types, not only for thick skin with large pores but also for thin (or thinning) and sensitive skin, as well as darker skin types.

When?
  • Pigmentation and age spots (discoloration), melasma, and acne.
  • Rejuvenation of hands.
  • Treatment of scars and stretch marks (chemabrasion).
  • This peeling is also often combined with a phenol peeling (see further) for the eyelids or around the mouth. In that case, the peeling is applied to the rest of the face to even out the results.
Treatment
  • No preparation or anesthesia required.
  • When applying the peeling, you will experience a warm sensation that is perfectly tolerable.
  • Immediately afterward, the “post-peel cream” is applied, providing an instant soothing effect and reducing redness and swelling.
  • During the first two days after the peeling, your face may feel slightly tight.
  • On the third and fourth day, your skin will start to “peel” (flake).
  • No downtime: you can resume your normal activities immediately.

Recommendations
  • On the day of the treatment, you should not wash the treated skin.
  • The post-peel cream applied after the peeling must remain on until the next day. The following morning, you may cleanse your skin as usual.
  • In the morning and evening, you may apply the recommended skincare creams. The more you hydrate your skin, the easier it will peel; your skin will feel better, and the results will also improve.
  • The skin must be extra protected from the sun (sunblock).
How many treatments?
  • Recommended as a course of 4 sessions with intervals of at least 6 to 10 days (face) or 2 weeks (rest of the body).

2. LIP & EYELID FORMULA = deep phenol peeling (for lips and eyes)

“Integral rejuvenation for the skin around the eyes, lips, or even the entire face.”

This is a phenol peeling (chemical), comparable to CO2 laser resurfacing or surgical dermabrasion (mechanical).

When?
  • Intended to smooth out deep wrinkles around the mouth or lower eyelids. After one week, the new skin will appear.

  • Recommended in a limited number of cases, and only your surgeon can determine whether it is suitable for you.

  • Important contraindications: pregnancy, breastfeeding, insulin-dependent diabetes, herpes.

Treatment

Preparation

  • If there is a risk of pigmentation changes, you may use the Blending Bleaching Cream for 2 to 3 weeks before the peeling.

Treatment

  • As soon as the peeling is applied, you will experience an intense heat sensation for at least 12 to a maximum of 15 seconds. After that, the peeling is well tolerated.
  • A phenol peeling of the eyelids or around the mouth is always combined with a lighter medium peeling (Unideep or Easy TCA) on the rest of the face to even out the result.

Aftercare

  • 24 hours after the treatment, you will come in for a check-up to remove the cream or dressing and apply an antibiotic product. You should continue applying this product as long as the treated area remains moist.
  • On the 3rd day, pain may return for a few hours; this is normal and expected. You may take a painkiller if needed; we recommend paracetamol.
  • On the 3rd or 4th day, you will have another check-up to ensure no infections have developed.
  • On the 5th and 6th day, when the yellow powder cracks, you should carefully apply a small amount of white petroleum jelly.
  • On the 7th day, the new skin will begin to appear.
  • On the 8th day, makeup and shaving are allowed.
  • Under no circumstances should the treated skin be exposed to the sun.

Downtime:

Recovery time is approximately 8 days, during which your social life may be limited due to swelling and peeling of your face.

Recommendations

Day of the treatment

  • Immediately after the peeling, a cream or transparent protective dressing will be applied.
  • You must not wash your face on the day of the treatment.

Day after the treatment

  • The next morning, you may cleanse your face as usual, except for the treated area. Use eye drops (artificial tears) if needed, multiple times a day.

For 3 months after the treatment, apply:

  • Sunblock
  • Blending Bleaching Cream to prevent pigmentation spots
  • Re-Nutric ACE, an antioxidant cream with Vitamins A, C, and E for hydration. The more you hydrate and protect your skin, the better and longer-lasting the peeling results.

Follow-up appointments

  • After 15 days, 1 month, and 3 months, you will have consultations with the surgeon to monitor progress and evaluate results.
  • Prolonged red/pink discoloration of the treated skin is normal.

3. ONLY TOUCH = deep phenol peeling (for small spots)

This is a deep phenol peeling for local treatment (1 cm spots).

When?
  • Recommended for very localized age spots on the hands, face, and décolleté.
  • Localized and deep: This is a deep peeling used to treat age spots, sunspots, and benign localized keratoses on the face and body. The spots should not be larger than 1 cm in diameter. Treatment with Only Touch should always be followed by an Easy TCA Peeling to even out the results.
Treatment
  • Preparation: For 2 to 3 weeks before the peeling, you should apply the Blending Bleaching depigmentation cream to the areas to be treated.
  • The peeling substance lightens the spots; immediately after the treatment, an Easy TCA Peeling will be applied to even out the result.
  • A few days after the peeling, some scabs will form. This is normal, and there is no need to worry.
  • The scabs will heal within 10 days. You must not pick or scratch them and should keep the treated area well-hydrated.
Recommendations
  • On the day of the treatment, you must not wash the treated area.
  • Use the recommended skincare creams: a vitamin E cream to hydrate the skin, and the Blending Bleaching Cream in the morning and evening on the spots to even out your complexion.

Belinda (2024) - Phenol Peeling

I have undergone, among other things, a phenol peeling with Dr. Marc, and I am extremely satisfied. He is honest, realistic, and highly skilled—on top of that, he is also empathetic and kind. His team is fantastic as well. This man has one true passion, and that is his work—or should I say, his art?

If you want something done to your precious body, wouldn’t you choose the best in his field, with very fair prices?

Possible risks and complications of peelings

  • A peeling is a very safe treatment.
  • Rare side effects include an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients or an infection.
  • Deeper peelings can sometimes trigger a herpes outbreak in people prone to herpes simplex on the face (cold sores). In such cases, an antiviral medication is prescribed.
  • Another possible complication is scarring, which may occur after an infection in the treated area. Picking at any scabs can also increase the risk of scarring.
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (P.I.H.) is always a possibility after a peeling but can be minimized by using Blending Bleaching Cream. In some cases, an additional depigmenting cream is prescribed by the doctor. 20% of pigmented melasma will not disappear after a single treatment cycle.
